Director of Faith Formation

Supervised By: Pastor

Responsible To: Ministry and Worship Team

Purpose:

To focus on equipping the whole church for ministry to and with the whole church family. Faith formation seeks to connect the church family in growing, sharing, serving with Jesus. This focus is intended to help our congregation grow deeper in faith together, share Jesus and life with one another, and serve alongside each other.

Hours:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) ministry position, exempt from overtime, including Sunday mornings. Some of the work will take place outside the traditional workday, including some evenings and weekends.

Primary responsibilities include:

1. Select curriculum, coordinate teachers for children and youth Sunday school.

2. Plan activities/programs that meet the faith formation needs of children, youth, families and adults.

3. Work with a team of volunteers to plan and lead Vacation Bible School.

4. Coordinate volunteers for children and youth social activities.

5. Coordinate volunteers for Kids’ Zone and Nursery on Sunday mornings.

6. Coordinate with volunteers service trips, work camps, National Youth Conference, Young Adult conference, and/or other trips for children, youth and young adults, if possible working with other adult service teams.

7. Work with the Pastor to develop “whole church” discipleship opportunities including worship experiences.

8. Advise ministry teams on “whole church” planning such as developing a comprehensive church calendar or initiatives of the congregation.

9. As needed, meet with ministry teams regarding whole church planning.

10. Regularly communicate with the congregation through various methods such as weekly announcements, Creek Connection (newsletter), social media and council packets.

11. Encourage involvement of children, youth and young adults in facilitating worship.

12. Collect or develop resources for the church family to use at home for continued faith formation.

13. Provide guidance to young adult groups, other adult life groups and Bible studies as necessary.

14. Train volunteer teachers and/or coordinators as necessary.

15. Secure and maintain adequate supplies needed by all children/youth ministry programs.

16. Establish a personal teaching schedule in all children, youth and young adult ministries to maintain a constant welcoming presence within these ministries.

17. Identify adults within the congregation who can intentionally encourage/support children, youth and young adults. Examples include: recognizing birthdays, graduations, milestones, and special school and/or community events.

18. Assist volunteers in obtaining child protection clearances, as needed.

19. Develop and submit annual faith formation budget and supervise expenditures.

20. Submit monthly reports to Ministry and Worship, and reports for Church Council packets.

21. Attend monthly Board meetings.

22. Attend weekly staff meetings.

23. Apply continuous learning and listening regarding all phases of faith formation.

24. Attend a minimum of one workshop/seminar each year to improve professional skills and to provide insight to the various ministries of the church.

Requirements:

1. Evidence of personal relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior.

2. Uphold basic beliefs and practices of the Church of the Brethren

3. Identify with the Spring Creek vision of “Growing, Sharing, and Serving Connected by Jesus.”

4. Relevant ministry training and/or experience.

5. Be or become a member of Spring Creek Church of the Brethren.

6. Strong emphasis of developing disciples within a congregation.

7. Excellent communication skills with children, teens and adults in person, in written and in digital formats.

8. Ability to use basic technology and digital communication formats (computer, social media, email, etc.)

9. Ability to uplift and work cooperatively with teams of volunteers.

10. Leadership skills to train and equip volunteers to effectively communicate with children, teens and young adults.

11. Recognize rhythms of our families, church and community by knowing school calendars, special events and holidays in the community.

12. Understand relationships by walking alongside families to equip and encourage one another to grow toward maturity in Christ.

13. Provide current required Child Protection Clearances.
